Hampton Roads’ StormSense project has been recognized by Smart Cities communities as an exceptional and practical example of regional collaboration and use of technologies such as cloud, IoT and AI. StormSense streamlines and combines data from multiple sources federal, state, regional and local governments to proactively address impending flooding issues using Internet of Things (IoT) autonomous water level sensors and Alexa, virtual assistant AI technology to provide water levels in real-time to the community. Preliminary work was performed to visualize past hurricane events and stream flows. These early efforts plan to provides critical information and enough data points for decision makers to simulate and prepare for disaster response as the weather patterns and the recorded water levels constantly changing.
